China Unveiled World’s First Stamp with 120um NFC Chip

For celebrating the 40^th National Best Stamp Selection Awards (第40届全国最佳邮票评选颁奖活动) at Dunhuang, Gansu in China, China Post officially unveiled a commemorative stamp with NFC chip inside.

China Post claims that the commemorative stamp is the world’s first stamp with NFC chip inside that allows NFC reader to read the information. The stamp owner is required to download China Post App in an NFC-enabled smartphone then switch on the NFC feature within the phone and read for the information available.

From the stamp, the owner is able to know whether the stamp is authentic or fake, vote for the best stamp and the serial number for that particular stamp, thanks to the 120um NFC chip.

China Post further explains that it took a longer time to develop the way to embed NFC chip within a stamp and the whole process was complicated. At the end, the development team is able to use different technologies such as multiple layers to ultra-thin paper in order to hide the chip as well as retain the authentication tag within the stamp.

After the chip is embedded into the stamp, the manufacturing team will ensure the information such as unique serial number and the chip ID are matched. This is the reason that each of the commemorative stamp is unique as the chip contains unique information.

In order to read the information on the NFC chip, owner is able to get it by scanning on the “40” on the stamp.
