LG Style2 (L-01L) Gets Android 10 Update in Japan

Japanese telco NTT Docomo is reported to be releasing the new Android 10 update for its device – LG Style2 (L-01L). This is the first major update for the device that was released in the Japanese market.

Apart from dark theme and support for gesture navigation, the new Android 10 also bring enhancements to LG’s own application such as Q-Memo. The security patch will be the latest August 2020 version.

In order to receive the update smoothly, user is required to fully charged its device and download the update file via WLAN. It would take about an hour for the whole process and it depends on your internet speed. It would be better to back-up the device before proceeding with the update process.

Huawei to Open New R&D Center in Qingpu, Shanghai

Huawei might have been banned by the US Government, but it continues to gain its footing in home country. The latest news from China suggested that the telco giant had signed a MOU on the new R&D center in Qingpu, Shanghai.

It was reported that the Shanghai Local Municipal and Huawei Company had signed a MOU the new Research and Development Center in Qingpu, Shanghai. Qingpu is about 50km from the city center. The new Qingpu R&D center has a total land space of 2,400 acres.

The center will be based on the principal of “Pragmatic, Efficient, Win-win for both”. The development will cover areas such as integrated circuits, software and information services, Internet of Things, Internet of Vehicles, Industrial Internet, and smart city demonstration applications. The partnership will also strengthen cooperation in technology research as well as development and demonstration of applications.

With this partnership, Huawei is able to expand its business in Shanghai while improving the infrastructure of the city toward smart city. The project will build Huawei's global innovation base by combining modern workplaces with high-tech elements and environmental-friendly elements.

China Unveiled World’s First Stamp with 120um NFC Chip

For celebrating the 40^th National Best Stamp Selection Awards (第40届全国最佳邮票评选颁奖活动) at Dunhuang, Gansu in China, China Post officially unveiled a commemorative stamp with NFC chip inside.

China Post claims that the commemorative stamp is the world’s first stamp with NFC chip inside that allows NFC reader to read the information. The stamp owner is required to download China Post App in an NFC-enabled smartphone then switch on the NFC feature within the phone and read for the information available.

From the stamp, the owner is able to know whether the stamp is authentic or fake, vote for the best stamp and the serial number for that particular stamp, thanks to the 120um NFC chip.

China Post further explains that it took a longer time to develop the way to embed NFC chip within a stamp and the whole process was complicated. At the end, the development team is able to use different technologies such as multiple layers to ultra-thin paper in order to hide the chip as well as retain the authentication tag within the stamp.

After the chip is embedded into the stamp, the manufacturing team will ensure the information such as unique serial number and the chip ID are matched. This is the reason that each of the commemorative stamp is unique as the chip contains unique information.

In order to read the information on the NFC chip, owner is able to get it by scanning on the “40” on the stamp. 

Huawei Mate 40/Pro/Pro+ to Launch in Next Month, China to Get it First

 

Huawei CEO, Richard Yu had confirmed earlier that Huawei Mate 40 series will be the last smartphone to equip with its self-developed Hisilicon Kirin 9000 process. When will the Chinese brand launch the soon-to-be legacy smartphone?

Sources from China had stated that Huawei Mate 40 series is set to be launch by end of October next month and it’s home country will be the first to get it. The Kirin 9000 will be the first processor based on 5nm manufacturing process and the upcoming user of Huawei Mate 40 will get to taste it.

The Huawei Mate 40 series is likely to have 4 models – Huawei Mate 40, Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ and Huawei Mate 40 RS. The Mate 40 RS is the Porsche Limited Edition that is available in other predecessors. From the product history of Mate series, the Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro/Mate 40 Pro+ are likely to have different numbers of camera sensors where the latter could be equipped with more sensors.

Recent leaks suggested that Huawei Mate 40 will come with either quad-camera or octa-camera setup and no one is able to verify it yet. As mentioned earlier that different models to come with different numbers of camera sensor. For the front-facing camera, it is likely to be punched-hole dual camera set up.

This Huawei Mate 40 series is soon-to-be legacy as the Chinese brand says good-bye to its Hisilicon processor after US government blocked the manufacturers from supplying to them in the future. Third party companies such as TSMC are prohibited to US blacklisted Huawei and any business dealing with Huawei would breach US regulations.

Rumour: New iPhone SE 2020 to Have New Processor (but unlikely to happen)

 

Previously, several news portals reported that the larger version of iPhone SE 2020, dubbed iPhone SE Plus will be equipped with the latest A14 Bionic processor. However, the latest rumor had denied that the mid-range smartphone will come with a latest processor.

The latest sources reported that Apple is working on a new A series processor and the new processor is likely to debut on the iPhone SE Plus in this year. Since this is a mid-range smartphone, the new A series processor is like to be a mid-range processor that will not be used on upcoming iPhone 12 and 12 Pro series.

Rumor is circling around pointed that Apple will introduce a new mid-range processor, but it is UNLIKELY to happen due to the way of the Cupertino-based company running its smartphone business. The cost of developing a new chipset is higher than to equip the new device with an existing but older processor such as A13 bionic, especially due to the pandemic around the world.

The current iPhone SE 2020 was announced with A13 Bionic, which was the latest processor at that time. However, a new A14 bionic processor had been announced recently on the new iPad Air 2020. Just to point out that A13 Bionic is also available on iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max that were announced a year ago. Clearly, Apple’s strategy is to equip the mid-range devices with an older processor.

Popular Analyst Kuo had reported that the new iPhone SE, likely to be the iPhone SE Plus, will come with a larger display like either iPhone XR or iPhone 8 Plus because the current iPhone SE had been criticized due to its tiny display. Of course, iPhone SE Plus will not come with any 5G connection.

The introduction of iPhone SE had given chance to the consumer that wants to own an Apple phone but with budget in mind. The device design could be slightly outdated as it is similar to iPhone 8, but the performance under the hood is similar to flagships iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone Pro Max. Qualcomm officially unveiled Snapdragon 750G 5G processor with AI Noise Suppression

American company Qualcomm has officially unveiled the new processor – Snapdragon 750G 5G Mobile Platform. This new processor is expected to be the successor of Snapdragon 730G and retain below Snapdragon 765G in terms of performance.

From the hardware, this Snapdragon 750G has a total of 8 Kryo 570 cores that clocked at 2.2GHz at maximum while the GPU is Adreno 619. On the RAM performance, it supports two 16-bit LPDDR4x with up to 12 GB at 2133 MHz.

In terms of display, this processor or mobile platform is able to supports display up to 1080p+ at 120 Hz refresh rate. For the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the supported formats are FastConnect 6200, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. The manufacturing process for SD750G is similar to the SD735G which is 8nm.

The SD750G is equipped with X52 modem that is similar to the SD765G. The new modem supports mmWave 5G and can reach download speed up to 3.7Gbps, which is an upgrade from 2.5Gbps from the predecessor X51 modem. Sub-6 is also on this processor and Qualcomm stated that this is a truly global 5G chipset with multiple SIMs support.

The AI Noise Suppression feature as Qualcomm claims that it can remove sounds like a baby crying or a dog barking, it will even mute sirens and jackhammers. This is definitely a great feature as many people are working from home due to the pandemic and it is hard to find a quiet place at home if family members are always around.

The first Snapdragon 750G powered smartphone is expected to launch before end of the year and Chinese company Xiaomi is said to have gained the exclusive on it. Anyhow, from the processor, it won’t be equipped on a high-end flagship but instead on a mid-ranger for the global market.

It had been confirmed that the Vsmart Aris is heading to Vietnam within this month. The price had been confirmed at VND 7.49 million for a mid-range smartphone. There is only one model available – 6GB RAM with 64GB ROM. The sibling Aris Pro is priced at VND 9.9 million with larger RAM and ROM as well as the standout invisible front-facing camera under the display.
