In this article, we are pitting iPhone 12 Pro Max against two of the latest gaming phone from Lenovo - Legion Phone Pro and Duel. We are comparing against the hardware as well as the overall outlook of them.
Display
In terms of display, the sizing and display types of all three devices are almost the same. The Legion Phones have higher refresh rate at 144Hz but the resolution for iPhone 12 Pro Max is higher. iPhone 12 Pro Max retains the Notch Display but the Legion Phones have full screen display which is more suitable for gaming experience.
Performance
IPhone 12 Pro Max is powered by the latest A14 Bionic processor while Legion Phones are powered by Snapdragon 865+ processor. The A14 Bionic is the first 5nm manufactured processor in the world and Snapdragon is 7nm+. In other words, A14 is the smallest processor to date.
For the RAM, iPhone 12 Pro Max has 6GB while Legion Phones offer three RAM options - 8GB, 128GB and 16GB. Since A14 is self-developed by Apple, the company claims that it is the best processor even only pairs with 6GB of RAM. If you are looking for Android phone, go for highest RAM.
For the storage, all three devices offer same - 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
On the OS, iPhone is expected to receive software updates up to 4 years while Android manufacturers usually stop providing updates after 2 years. Legion Phones should receive update up until Android 12.
Photography
There is no doubt that iPhone 12 Pro Max is ahead with the LiDAR scanner as well as other camera improvements. Apple claims that Pro Max is for breathtaking camera experience. Since Legion Phones are gaming phones, the camera is only dual-camera setup and do not expect good quality photo.
On the side note, Legion Phones have side pop-up camera that allow gamers to record or live stream while playing games on horizontal.
Battery
There is no information yet on the battery for iPhone 12 Pro Max during press time. However, the battery in the new iPhone should be smaller than the 5,000mAh battery of both Legions. Also, the two gaming phones charge faster than iPhone 12 Pro Max.
On the side note, the 5,000mAh is actually a combine of two 2,500mAh batteries. Hence, users are able to charge both batteries simultaneously on two USB ports in order to achieve 90w fast charging.
Size
Legion Phones are larger, thicker and heavier than the iPhone 12 Pro Max due to the advanced cooling system with two heat pipes as well as Lenovo’s U-Engine dual X-axis vibration motor which promises over 100 types of long vibration patterns and 13 kinds of low-response ones. All these definitely contributing to the size.
Network
Since both are gaming phones, they support 5G network for blazing fast gaming experience to avoid delay. iPhone 12 Pro Max also supports 5G. However, you need to have 5G network in your country, else LTE is the preferred network.
GSMINSIDER’s Pick
Due to the design of Legion Phones, ordinary customer is unlike to purchase them as both are suitable for gamers.
On the other hand, Apple also claims that League of Legends: Wild Rift will be launched on its new iPhone line-up, hence, the 12 Pro Max is definitely a flagship for gaming.
If you are looking for gaming phone with lower budget, Legion Phones are more than sufficient for you. Go for iPhone 12 Pro Max if you have higher budget as the price isn’t cheap at USD 1,099.
